The cheetah is an athlete: this we know of old.
Of all four-footed creatures he takes Olympic Gold.
His legs are long, his coat is sleek, his eyes are bright and starry;
He bounds along the sunbaked plains faster than a Ferrari.
No Grand Prix driver has his speed, his grace, his quick responses
(And secretly the cheetah thinks they’re just a load of nonces).
He stands upon a termite mound like Moses on the mountain.
He has two thousand spots, but he’s too fast for you to count ‘em.
And if you’re out in Africa, on the safari trail,
If you’re very, very lucky, you might just glimpse…. his tail.
